The Wainwright pub on Lake Road, Keswick — exterior with hanging sign and outdoor seating

Lake Road · Keswick · Cumbria

A warm fire,a good pint, and the fells at the door.

A traditional Keswick pub at the foot of the Cumbrian fells — eight hand-pulled real ales, honest food, and a welcome for walkers, dogs and weary travellers.

The Pub

Named for a man who knew every path, peak and pause for breath.

We refurbished the old Four In Hand over the winter of 2014/15 and opened as The Wainwright at the end of April 2015 — named for Alfred Wainwright, who walked these fells with a pipe in his pocket and a sketchbook under his arm.

Oak floors throughout, dog-friendly, and we keep up to eight real ales, all from Cumbria. A relaxing spot for the casual tourist and the committed user of the fells alike.

A pint and pub food

"Boots off, pint in hand, fire roaring — the only place to be after a soggy day on Catbells."
